Immigration detention has attained global dimensions, following the example of the United States. The scale of the current U.S. immigration detention system is unprecedented in U.S. history and unmatched in any other country. Over 34,000 men and women are held in civil immigration detention each day in the United States, but thousands more are detained across the world. Their stories are locked up with them. We hope this map will serve as a platform for people in immigration detention across the globe to tell their stories. We encourage friends, families, and communities of support to post audio recordings, videos, and written accounts from their loved ones in detention who desire to tell their stories. This is a project of Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC), www.endisolation.org.
